Defining Dataset and Field Macros

Abstract

Define dataset and field macros by providing descriptions and expected formats when assigning macros in prebuilt questions.

You can generate a taxonomy for your organization's clean rooms. You can then enter descriptions and expected formats for dataset and field macros on the Question page's Taxonomy tab. This will help users understand what to assign to the available dataset and field macros when collaborating on prebuilt questions.

Your partner might expect a certain dataset or fields from you but may have different names for them. To help your partners, you can provide metadata to help them verify the correct dataset and field macros for your collaboration. The Taxonomy tab of the Questions page includes a list of macros with a "Used In" column that provides links to the questions where the macros are used.

Once you generate the taxonomy, you can go to the Taxonomy tab and click Edit in the Actions column to edit the expected format and description of the macro. For example, the @Partner_A_ID field is ambiguous and could imply many different ID types. If the Description column indicates RampID for instance, it'll be clear to your partner how this field is used because each macro displays a description in a tooltip.

Once you enter the needed information and a user clicks Manage Datasets for a question, tooltips are available in the Macro column to describe the available macros. If you don't include a description, no tooltip is displayed.

Maintaining consistency with your macro names and descriptions across questions makes it easier for your partners to use your macros to map their data.
