Template FAQs

See the FAQs below for common questions about templates.

What is included in a template?

Templates can currently be used to create repeatable clean rooms that can include these parameters and items:

  • Questions

    Note

Templates only support the provisioning of organization-level questions.

  • Question permissions

  • Owner datasets

  • Flows

  • Intelligence dashboards

    Note

Templates do not support cloning linked dashboards from Intelligence into clean rooms generated from the template.

  • Export destination connection

  • Owner users

Do templates support destination connections?

Yes, destination connections can be included in templates and these destination connections will be accessible to clean rooms generated from the template.

How do template terms and conditions work?

Template terms and conditions are an optional addition to a template clean room. Including terms and conditions in a template means that any clean rooms generated from the template will require invited partners to agree to the terms and conditions before being able to access the clean room. This is most commonly used for test and evaluation clean rooms, which do not require full contracting with LiveRamp or the clean room owner.

Does LiveRamp Clean Room support versioning for terms and conditions?

Yes. You can update the version of terms and conditions used in the template and all partners in clean rooms generated from that template will be prompted to accept the new terms the next time they enter the clean room. You can then view which version of your terms and conditions each partner has accepted. For more information, see “Attaching Terms and Conditions to Clean Room Templates”.

Are updates to my template pushed to clean rooms generated from the template?

Except for any clean rooms you’ve decoupled from the template when you generated the clean room, updates to question will be pushed to clean rooms generated from the templates automatically. Other edits or updates to a template are not retroactive and are only applied to net new clean rooms generated from the template. Any updates required to the previously existing clean rooms must be applied to the clean rooms themselves if required.

What exactly does “Decouple From Template” do?

It breaks the ongoing link between a template and the generated clean room or copied template for questions. Once decoupled, future edits to template questions will not change that clean room/template, and edits inside that clean room/template will not change the original template or other clones. In most cases, LiveRamp recommends decoupling the template from any generated or copies clean rooms.

When should I leave a clean room or template coupled?

Leave it coupled only when you deliberately want centrally-managed questions that auto‑update across many clean rooms (for example, a tightly-controlled internal template library or a standard POC configuration where all collaborators should always run the same set of queries).

When should I decouple the template?

Decouple by default for partner‑specific or production collaborations, and whenever you know you’ll customize queries, flows, or dashboards for a given partner or org. Decoupling lets you change those safely without impacting other clean rooms or the base template.

What still updates if I decouple?

Decoupling only affects the ongoing relationship between this object and its source template for questions. Future edits to the template will still apply to new clean rooms or templates you generate later, but they will not retroactively change already‑decoupled ones.

Do dataset transforms, parameters, and terms and conditions behave the same way as questions for a coupled clean room?

No. Dataset transforms and most configuration settings are copied at creation time and are not pushed retroactively. Terms and conditions are managed at the template/clean‑room level: updating them in a template can prompt re‑acceptance in coupled clean rooms, but decoupled clean rooms must be updated directly.

Are dataset transformations (filtering, operators, etc.) persisted to clean rooms generated from templates?

Yes, any filters or operator functions you configure for datasets you own in a template will be persisted to all clean rooms generated from that template.

I can't see a template that I know is in our organization. What do I need to do?

To see a particular template, have a user whose role includes the "Manage Clean Room Roles" permission add you as a user to the template clean room.

I can't perform a particular operation on a template. What do I need to do?

For most template actions (generate, add items, copy, edit, delete), you need an org-level role such as “Clean Rooms Administrator". If the action involves managing users or roles inside the template, your clean-room role must also include the “Manage Clean Room Roles” permission. Ask a user whose role includes the "Manage Clean Room Roles" permission to adjust your permissions.
