Announcing LiveRamp’s Infrastructure Improvements (5/21/19)
LiveRamp is in the process of making technical improvements to the backend of our platform, which includes a migration of the infrastructure where we process your data from a managed data center to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This migration will have a number of benefits for you, including faster processing times, improved systems reliability, and enhanced data security.
Warning
Customers who use the LiveRamp SFTP: As part of the migration, all customers who upload or download files using the LiveRamp SFTP will need to make changes to the LiveRamp SFTP IP address and domain name. See the “Actions Required for Customers Who Use the LiveRamp SFTP” section below for more information.
While we hope to keep any customer impact to a minimum during the migration, there will be a limited number of system downtimes and potential processing delays. See “System Downtimes” below for more information.
Benefits of Migrating to GCP
The infrastructure migration to GCP will provide you with a number of benefits:
Additional processing capacity, which will decrease turnaround times while providing more scalability
Faster pixel response times (5x improvement on average) that will enhance our capabilities around services such as website personalization
Improved reliability, security, and monitoring, providing even greater protection for your data
Other than the changes listed below for customers who use the LiveRamp SFTP, the migration to GCP will not otherwise affect how you upload, manage, distribute, or receive data through LiveRamp.
Actions Required for Customers Who Use the LiveRamp SFTP
As a result of the migration, our SFTP server’s IP address and domain name have changed. All customers who upload or download files via the LiveRamp SFTP must update this information.
Caution
Customers who receive files into their own SFTP and customers who use the domain sftp.pippio.com for SFTP uploads or downloads do not need to make any changes.
If you use a firewall that allows you to allowlist trusted IP addresses for file transfers, update the LiveRamp SFTP IP address:
Previous IP address: 139.61.75.249
New IP address: 35.202.130.160
When connecting to the LiveRamp SFTP, use the updated domain name:
Previous domain name: sftp.liveramp.com
New domain name: files.liveramp.com
See “Upload a File via LiveRamp's SFTP” for updated SFTP upload instructions.
System Downtimes
Starting in July, there will be brief periods of system downtime during which we will perform required migration work. In order to minimize disruptions to you, we will make every attempt to schedule these downtimes during non-peak hours (such as on weekends) and keep them as short as possible. We hope to complete the migration work within 3 to 5 months.
Depending on the nature of the work being performed, some downtimes might affect only one component of our services, while other downtimes might affect all of our services.
We will give you as much advance notice as possible for each downtime, and will include information about which services are affected. You can also check "Upcoming System Downtimes" for the most current information.
If you have any concerns regarding the availability of LiveRamp services during this transition, contact your LiveRamp account leads.
FAQs
For Customers Who Use the LiveRamp SFTP
What will change in the SFTP upload or download process once I make the update?
If the update is completed successfully, you will not see any other changes in how you upload or download files via the LiveRamp SFTP.
What is the level of effort required to make these updates?
These updates should not require a significant amount of time or resources to complete. If you use a firewall that allows you to allowlist trusted IP addresses for file transfers, your IT or Technical Ops lead will need to update your firewall settings to include the new IP address. Additionally, your SFTP-credentialed user will need to update the domain name in your SFTP client application (or at the command line if you use this for uploads or downloads).
For All Customers
If our company doesn’t upload or download files using the LiveRamp SFTP (i.e., we use an S3 bucket for uploads or we receive files into our SFTP server), do we need to change anything about how we upload or download files?
No.
If our company receives files from LiveRamp into our own SFTP, do we need to make any SFTP changes?
No.
If our company uploads via SFTP to the domain sftp.pipio.com do we need to make any SFTP changes?
No.
Other than the changes for customers who use the LiveRamp SFTP, will there be any other changes that we will need to make in how we interact with LiveRamp after the migration is complete?
No. All of the changes will be on the backend and will not change how you interact with LiveRamp.
When will the system downtimes occur and how long will they last?
We will always attempt to schedule downtimes during non-peak (weekend) hours and keep them as short as possible (usually not longer than 4-6 hours).
How will the system downtimes affect me?
During some downtimes you will not be able to interact with any LiveRamp services, including within Connect, via API, or through our SFTP server. Other downtimes will only affect certain components of our services. We will communicate information about how each downtime will affect you when we provide you with advance notice.
How will I find about upcoming downtimes or delays?
You will see a dialog banner in Connect and we will send you an email. Any upcoming downtime information will be listed in “Upcoming System Downtimes”. Any system delays will be listed in “Current Known Issues”.
Where can I get additional information on data security at LiveRamp?
See “LiveRamp Data Security Overview” for more information.
