Understanding the Unique Authenticated RampID Metrics

The RampID-based metrics in ATS Analytics give you insights into the number of authentications on your domains by matching the generated envelopes with RampIDs.

To understand these metrics better, you must first understand how the RampID is calculated. Each time a user authenticates (logs in), a request is sent to the envelope API, generating an envelope matched to a RampID. If the user logs in from a different device and/or with a different email, another envelope is generated. However, if LiveRamp determines that both logins belong to the same individual, the same RampID is returned.

Tip

Why does my authentication count seem low compared to other reports?

A single user logging in with multiple accounts and different emails may be assigned the same RampID. This can result in a lower authentication count in ATS Analytics compared to external reports. However, this also gives you a more accurate representation of unique users rather than counts based on multiple logins/accounts.

To get an overview of the number of unique authenticated RampID on your domains, go to the Authentications dashboard.

Example Scenario

. August 5th
  • A user logs into a website on device A, triggering a new envelope request.

  • The user stays for one hour, and the envelope is refreshed twice (every 30 minutes).

  • Later, the same user logs in again from device B, generating a new envelope request.

  • The user logs in once more using a different email (eg., work instead of personal). Since LiveRamp recognizes them as the same user, the same RampID is returned.

The graph shows one unique authenticated RampID for the day, even though the user logged in from two devices and two emails. On the Authentications dashboard, this is reflected in both Unique Authenticated RampID and Newly Generated RampID columns.

. August 6th
  • The user returns and continues browsing. The envelope is refreshed, but no new envelope is created.

The graph still shows one unique authenticated RampID derived from the refreshed RampID. On the Authentications dashboard, this is reflected in both the Unique Authenticated RampID and Refreshed RampID columns.
