Advanced TV Terms and Concepts

An explanation of the terms and metrics you might see in the following locations in the Advanced TV UI:

Subscriber-based OTT universe: An OTT universe where the OTT platform requires an authentication event to log into their platform. The members of this type of universe are considered "subscribers."

Device-based OTT universe: An OTT universe where the OTT platform does not require an authentication event to log into their platform. The members of this type of universe are not considered "subscribers" and are instead counted as "devices."

Grouped universe: A universe made from combining multiple component universe footprints, either owned or permissioned by a partner. Audience builders may then use the grouped universe to build target audiences, generating a single match value. The owner of the grouped universe configures one required "delivery location" (which might contain multiple individual delivery locations) for any distributions of audiences that use the grouped universe.

Subscribers: When we display a metric for "Subscribers", this number includes MVPD universe members and subscriber-based OTT universe members. This number does not include unauthenticated platform traffic, where there is no login event.

Devices: When we display a metric for "Devices", this is the number of the devices in any device-based OTT universes.

MVPD Subscriber: These subscribers have been authenticated by the MVPDs, so each MVPD subscriber can be considered a household.

OTT Subscriber: When an OTT platform requires an authentication event to log into their platform, we count the OTT devices used to access those platforms as OTT subscribers. Each OTT subscriber is considered a household.

OTT Device: When an OTT platform does not require an authentication event to log into their platform, the device data that is collected is considered unauthenticated traffic. They are not inherently associated with a household.

OTT Converted HH: If we're able to link a particular OTT device to a LiveRamp household in our Identity Graph, we classify that device as a "converted household."

Unassociated OTT: When an OTT device cannot be associated with a LiveRamp household in our Identity Graph, we cannot confidently consider it as belonging to a household. Therefore, we determine that these devices are “unassociated”.

Thresholds

When building an audience, the audience threshold for a particular universe determines the minimum number of subscriber or viewer households from that universe that need to be part of the audience before it can be saved or distributed.

The segment threshold for a particular universe determines the minimum number of subscriber or viewer households from that universe that need to be part of any segment in the audience that use's that universe's data.

Note

Thresholds are usually set to ensure campaign performance and privacy compliance.

When a TV seller (such as an MVPD or network) permissions a universe to a partner, they can choose to use their default audience and segment thresholds for that universe or they can set custom thresholds.
