Blocking Advertisers from Data Marketplace Segments
Data sellers can block advertisers from accessing their segments in the Data Marketplace.
Note
Blocking advertisers from accessing your segments in the Data Marketplace has no effect on the ability of those advertisers to access your segments in any other downstream platforms that you distribute your Data Marketplace segments to.
Once you block an advertiser, any Data Marketplace segments that they have previously requested will no longer appear in their destination account segment lists. And previously-distributed segments will stop distributing, but will stay active in the destination platform until the distribution taxonomy is resynced, which us usually done monthly or sooner. To request a manual resync if you need the data removed sooner, create a support case.
The Data Marketplace segment metadata file (where you provide metadata for your Data Marketplace segments, such as segment description, permitted use cases, and price) is the main mechanism to use for blocking advertisers from accessing certain segments. However, if there is an advertiser that you want to block from accessing any of your segments, you can block them globally.
For either method, you will need to refer to the advertiser name listed on the Data Marketplace reference sheet, which you can download from the Data Marketplace - My Segments page (see "Download the Data Marketplace Reference Sheet" for more information).
Note
The reference sheet automatically includes all of the Forbes Global 2,000 companies and any advertiser that has been ever blocked by a data seller. However, if the advertiser you want to block doesn't appear on the reference sheet, follow the instructions in the "Having an Advertiser Added to the Data Marketplace Reference Sheet" section of this article. Advertisers that do not appear on the reference sheet cannot be blocked.
Globally Block an Advertiser
To globally block an advertiser from accessing any of your segments in the Data Marketplace, you can have them added to the global "Blocked Advertisers" list (which appears on the Contract tab of the Data Marketplace Settings page).
Caution
Globally blocking an advertiser only blocks that advertiser from accessing any Data Marketplace segments you enable after the block is put in place (by auto-populating that advertiser name in the "Blocked Advertisers" column of the segment metadata file for "Segments Not In The Data Marketplace). To also block that advertiser from your existing segments, follow the instructions in the "Block an Advertiser from a Group of Segments" section of this article, downloading the segment metadata file for "Segments In The Data Marketplace."
To add an advertiser to your global Blocked Advertisers list:
Download the Data Marketplace reference sheet and find the name of the advertiser you want to block.
Note
If the advertiser has a parent company, use the name of the parent company.
If the advertiser you want to block doesn't appear on the reference sheet, first follow the instructions in the "Having an Advertiser Added to the Data Marketplace Reference Sheet" section of this article.
Create a case in the LiveRamp Community portal and provide the advertiser name exactly as it appears in the reference sheet.
Once the advertiser name appears in the Blocked Advertiser list on the Contract tab of the Data Marketplace Settings page, the advertiser name will auto-populate in the Blocked Advertisers column of the segment metadata file for any new Data Marketplace segments.
Block an Advertiser from a Group of Segments
If you want to block an advertiser from a group of Data Marketplace segments:
Download the appropriate segment metadata file (depending on whether you want to block the advertiser from new Data Marketplace segments, existing segments, or all segments).
Download the Data Marketplace reference sheet and find the name of the advertiser you want to block.
Note
If the advertiser has a parent company, use the name of the parent company.
Add the advertiser name to the "Blocked Advertisers" column (column AB) for any segments you want to block that advertiser from accessing and save the file (see "Update a Data Marketplace Segment Metadata File" for more information). Separate multiple advertiser names with commas.
Having an Advertiser Added to the Data Marketplace Reference Sheet
Only advertisers that appear on the Data Marketplace reference sheet can be blocked from accessing Data Marketplace segments.
If the advertiser you want to block does not appear on the reference sheet, email requestadvertiser@liveramp.com asking to have them added. Include the following information:
The official company name.
A brief description of what the company does.
A Wikipedia page for the company or the company information that appears on the right-hand side of the screen when you perform a Google search.
A list of any other names that the company goes by ("aliases").
A list of any child companies for the company, or the name of the parent company if the company is a child company.
Unblocking an Advertiser from Some or All Segments
If you want to unblock an advertiser from some or all Data Marketplace segments:
Download the segment metadata file for "Segments In The Data Marketplace."
Remove the advertiser name from the "Blocked Advertisers" column (column AB) for any segments you want to unblock that advertiser from accessing and save the file (see "Update a Data Marketplace Segment Metadata File" for more information).
Note
If the advertiser has a parent company, use the name of the parent company.
If you want to unblock that advertiser from all new segments from that point on, create a case in the LiveRamp Community portal and provide the name of the advertiser you want to unblock.
